The occurrence of microplastics is recently extended to the freshwater environments, including river systems, streams, lakes, pond, creek, and estuarine rivers. This paper overviews the current knowledge and research findings on the occurrence of microplastics in water, sediment, and fish in freshwater environments.Dec 1, 2016 · Microplastics were presented in lakeshore sediments from remote lakes in Tibet Plateau. • Microplastics were detected with an average abundance up to 563 items/m 2. • PE, PP, PET, PVC and PS were identified from the microplastic samples. • Surface texture of microplastics show mechanical and oxidative weathering features.
