UVA leads the effort to design and fabricate one of the three main detectors for Mu2e, the Cosmic Ray Veto. The ongoing fabrication is one of the largest undertakings ever by the High Energy Physics group at UVA. LDMX. The constituents of dark matter are unknown, and the viable possibilities span a very large mass range.High energy density (HED) science is the study of systems of matter and radiation at high temperatures (typically millions of degrees) and pressures (over a million atmospheres). Most of the systems of interest are dense plasmas requiring theoretical treatment beyond traditional plasma physics, and they are often extremely relativistic.High Energy Physics studies the fundamental building blocks of nature and the interactions that govern their behaviors. These building blocks include quarks, leptons, and bosons and are described by the Standard Model of particles physics. The Standard Model provides a theoretical framework and is one of the most successful theories ever devised.
