Ichnos: An International Journal for Plant and Animal Traces, 2(1):91-92 , An ichnocoenosis (plural = ichnocoenoses) is an ecological assemblage of trace fossils that are the work of a single community of tracemaking organisms (Bromley, 1996).An ichnocoenosis is a lower level hierarchical unit compared to an ichnofacies, but has greater use for understanding the physicochemical factors that controlled the distribution and abundance of the trace fossils in question.
