How to tame pegomastax

Hi there, has anyone a clue on how these are tamed? I put some vegies on my last spot on my hotbar and yeh it steals it and dashes away, but for the life of me I have no clue how to complete this tame. In frustration I punched its lights out and retrieved all my stolen goodies from his inventory, but the message says it needs to be tamed whilst awake.
